Have you ever felt like your body is at war with itself?
Well that’s how I felt.
I’ve been physically active all my life despite suffering sporadic pain down the back of my right leg since I was a teenager. This was an annoyance and pain I simply ignored and pushed through. As years passed the increase in pain was so subtle it gradually spread to my lower back, upper shoulders, hip flexors and elbows. I repeatedly sought every specialist there was - chiropractors, physios, osteopaths, podiatrists, massage, pilates etc. I was diagnosed over the years with scoliosis, functional leg length discrepancy and even exercise induced asthma. I took an inhaler, stretched, rolled and diligently did every exercise prescribed to try relieve tension and pain. Occasionally it helped but never long term and the ailments kept spreading.
Why wasn’t any of this working?
Being in my early 50’s I wrongly thought because of my age the pain and tension was only going to get worse. It was relief to learn the root cause was simply that my body had over time forgotten how to move in healthy patterns!
Discovering Somatics was a life saver!
I realised I’ve had the tools to fix my subconscious tension and dysfunctional muscular patterns all along – my brain and my nervous system!
Since practising Clinical Somatics and retraining the connections between my brain and muscles, I’ve experienced a long list of changes in my posture and how I move.
The pain has gone, I feel more centred and upright, my torso feels like it’s in line with my hips, and my hips and shoulders feel more even. Even my exercise induced asthma has completely gone because my muscular patterns around breathing (no inhaler) are now healthily functioning. It has simply changed my life.
Actually enjoying moving easily has been life changing.
I’ve loved every single minute in earning the qualifications and experience to help others to help themselves out of pain with this incredibly powerful and successful technique of pandiculation.
My private clinic in the Scottish Borders focuses on individual clients and small groups for assessment and teaching to enable them long term improvement and change. Every individual suffers issues personal to themselves. Because Somatics is so accessible, gentle and safe, no one is off limits to have the ability to consciously improve and enjoy movement in a pain-free way.
