What is Clinical Somatics?

Deliberate, conscious movements uncovering root cause pain, tension and stiffness. Retrain your brain and nervous system to change and improve your posture and how you move.

Have you ever felt tension or pain and you just don’t know how to relieve it?

You rub it, stretch it, foam roll it, take medication, seek various professionals to “fix” it – yet it just doesn’t relieve the pain or tension? Or if it does it’s short lasting and returns?

Clinical Somatics uses the ground breaking movement technique of pandiculation teaching gentle movements to contract the muscles then deliberately release them until complete relaxation is achieved.

If you can’t feel the muscles then you can’t change it, but if you can feel it you can change it!

The root of pain lies within the brain.

Just as the brain learns to play music, drive a car or riding a bike, it can learn negative things like unconsciously holding muscles around weak and injured areas or bad posture.

Clinical Somatics changes your habitual posture and movement by retraining your brain and nervous system so you can contract AND relax your muscles on demand.

Through deliberate and conscious movement exercises you engage your brain and nervous system in an active learning process The movements are very slow, focused, the results are long lasting addressing the root cause of pain and releasing stuck muscles.

Muscles become chronically tight from the habitual way you use your body.

Through physical and emotional stress and injury and trauma our bodies become imbalanced. Over time your brain and nervous system subtly and without you consciously noticing, is adjusting to these changes which starts to damage your body. Often leading to pain in the neck, back, hip, knees, shoulders etc, eventually leading to sciatica, scoliosis, carpel tunnel, disc degeneration, arthritis, fatigue and many other structural and functional problems.

Once the muscles are relaxed your posture, movement and flexibility continually improves with practice. You’ll feel more energetic since you require much less effort to do things like sit, stand, walk, dance and exercise.

If you can FEEL it you can change it!

If you can’t feel and fully contract AND relax certain muscles then you can’t use it properly.

Some people call this muscle memory - in Somatics we call this Sensory Motor Amnesia (SMA). Using the safe and highly successful technique of pandiculation you can help yourself out of pain.
